The first listing of Agaricus in the Fungi of India was by Butler (1931), revised by Vasudeva (1960) followed by several supplementary lists in between culminating with the Fungi of India by Bilgrami et al. (1980, 81). Exclusive listing of Indian Agaricales was first undertaken by Sathe and Rahalkar (1975) followed by Manjula (1983), who consolidated the information on Agaricoid and Boletoid fungi of India and Nepal. Later, the enlisting was updated by Natarajan et al. (2005). This catalogue provides available information on Agricomycetes in the orders Agaricales, Boletales and Russulales. It is very much hoped that the compilation would serve as a good base line data for all those engaged in research on different aspects of mushrooms and will provide good basic pre- matter and material for diversification and domestication.
